North East Wales Junior Cricket

CRICKET WALES PATHWAY

Changes are taking place to the Cricket Wales Pathway, which will come into effect from 1st November 2018.

The structure has been the culmination of an extensive collaboration and consultation process with key personnel within the ECB, Cricket Wales, Glamorgans County Cricket Club and Regional Cricket, in addition to practitioners within the field of youth and athletic development.

Cricket Wales firmly believe that the new Pathway moves Welsh cricket in an exciting direction for our youngsters, which will benefit them for years to come.

Welcome to the North East Wales Junior Cricket website.

North East Wales Junior Cricket provides a structure for junior Cricket at both club and representative level for boys and girls across the Region.

The North East Wales Junior Leagues are well established and provide structured junior cricket at under 9, under 11, under 13 and under 15 level age groups. Under 9 fixtures are played as friendly matches to encourage the development of young players at an early age. At under 11, under 13 and under 15 levels, there are competitive leagues but the major emphasis is still on player development and teaching young players to grow and progress within the virtues of the Spirit of the Game and all that it entails.

The Region runs representative teams from U10 through to U15 age groups for boys . Clubs nominate young players for these age group teams and during the Winter months, Regional Coaches work with them before determining their age group squads for the following summer. The success of North East  Wales representative teams has grown over the years and our teams now compete very strongly with our South Wales counterparts.

Girls cricket continues to grow. The North East Wales Girls cricket hub is now well established and attracts girls from all over the Region. 2018 was another good year for the girls and we will continue to progress this over the Winter, joining forces with the MCC Girls Hub, for our indoor training, to hopefully attract more girls to the game.

Girls new to the game, along with those already in the system, train and compete together to develop and enhance the cricket experience for girls within the Region. Club and Regional coaches will again run the programme. We would encourage as many girls as possible to become involved. Prior cricket knowledge or skills are not essential.

This is a wonderful, exciting and ground breaking opportunity for any girls who want to take up the game (see Girls Junior Cricket section for more details)
